Screen Printing

Screen printing is a printing technique that uses a woven mesh to support an ink-blocking stencil. A roller or squeegee is moved across the screen stencil, forcing or pumping ink past the threads of the woven mesh in the open areas. Screen printing is also a stencil method of print making in which a design is imposed on a screen of silk or other fine mesh, with blank areas coated with an impermeable substance, and ink is forced through the mesh onto the printing surface. It is also known as silkscreen, serigraphy, and serigraph printing.

So this spring, while we were busy as bees trying to figure out our next creative move, we decided to incorporate a bit of screen printing into our agenda. Here's a glimpse of some of it being done at the factory.

Its spring and the floral motif is taking us full on, so we're doing it all through screen printing.

The first step is design development

Then the design goes onto the tracing table

Screens with the design detailed on them

Tracing the designs using chalk powder

Preparing the colour pool

Application of colour on the screens

And the magic unfolds

Drying out the carpets

A bit of oriental magic as the trends spell this year and of course the floral essence of spring, they look quite like an installation as they dry out.
