Gio Ponti

Summer is the perfect time to celebrate the graphic, blue pattern work of Gio Ponti.

Ponti was one of the most important Italian architects, industrial designers, furniture designers, artists, and  publishers of the twentieth century. He insisted that decoration and modern ideas were not incompatible. His ideas blended the old and the new. One can see in the tile work inspiration from ancient Roman mosaics refashioned with colorways contemporary to his era. Ponti disregarded conventional boundaries and explored a profound analogy between different fields of art and design, ranging from the minor arts and furniture to overarching architectural schemes.

Between 1960 and 1962 Ponti designed and realized the first Italian Hotel Design: the Parco dei Principi (Sorrento).
